Paper Abstract:      As rapidly increasing of web sites, information overloading has been a serious problem when people search on the Internet. In order to overcome such problem and help customers to make decisions efficiently, Ricci (2002) proposed using recommender system in electronic commerce sites to give consumers suggestions of purchasing goods. However, many recommender systems nowadays do not take account of consumers’ purchase decision process. Consumer in the different stage of making purchase decision may need different kinds of information. Without considering such difference, the recommendations won’t be suited for consumers. Therefore, this paper proposed an adaptive recommendation system architecture which is based on the customer’s purchase decision process. We then implemented this system and verified the recommendation achievement through field experimentation. The main findings of this research are: (1) the recommender system which contains purchase decision process detecting functionality results high recommendation achievement. (2) Different kinds of recommendation algorithm will result in different recommendation achievement. (3) The interaction of recommendation algorithm and purchase decision process detection method would influence recommendation achievement.
